The annual Einstein lectures, organized by the Albert-Einstein Society Bern and the University of Bern are dedicated, in turn, to physics, mathematics, and philosophy. This is a tribute to Einstein's interests and to the fact that he completed his most famous works in Bern. After two Nobel laureates, mathematics presents another highlight this year, Professor Cedric Villani, Universite de Lyon and Institut Henri Poincare, Paris, who was awarded the Fields Medal 2010. There are three lectures (every evening), the first and the last designed for a general audience. This year the titles "Of Triangles, Gas, Prices and Men" and "Stars, Particles and Probabilities: What is the Fate of Galaxies?" Aug 18—24, 2013 The Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS), in collaboration with Chalmers University, Gothenburg (Sweden), is organising a summer school on "Quantum Integrable Systems and Quantum Information Theory" from 18-24 August 2013. The School is aimed at postgraduate students and young researchers, as well as at higher level undergraduate students with an interest in quantum systems and/or quantum information theory. The school will take place in Lawler's Hotel, Dungarvan. Students are expected to fund their own flight and accommodation but all other costs are covered by the Institute, including speakers, coffees/teas and a bus which will be organised from Dublin airport to Dungarvan on Sunday 18th, returning Saturday 24th August. US-Sweden Workshop on Partial Differential Equations and Spectral Theory

On the occasion of a special semester on Partial Differential Equations and Spectral Theory, organized by Ari Laptev, Victor Guillemin, and Bernard Helffer, at the Mittag-Leffler Institute in Djursholm, Sweden, we have organized a US-Sweden Workshop for young investigators.

The National Science Foundation (funding recommended) and the Mittag-Leffler Institute will support 5--6 young researchers at institutions in the US for 1--3 months of stay during the fall of 2002, including travel.

We solicit applications from advanced doctoral students and new PhDs at US institutions (within 5 years of the degree) for this unique opportunity.

Interested mathematicians should submit the following material by 1 MAY 2002:

  1. Current Curriculum Vita, including a publication list;
  2. Copies of publications;
  3. Statement of research activities;
  4. Statement as to the relevance of the program to their research;
  5. Two letters of recommendation,

The purpose of this meeting is to gather specialists of microlocal analysis (including semiclassical analysis) on one side, and specialists of classical dynamical systems on the other side, in order to emphasize the relations between these two very active areas of mathematical physics. To this aim, the conference will be centered around two series of lectures~: one given by J. Sjöstrand on the correspondence between the existence of trapped classical trajectories and the location of quantum resonances ; the other one given by C. Liverani on dynamical systems oriented towards quantum mechanics. The rest of the talks will deal with some recent developments concerning long-time evolution problems, quantum chaos, scattering theory, resonances, etc.
